Frequently Asked Questions
What is a browser?

A Web Browser is the software product that locates and displays web pages. Most newer browsers are graphical browsers, which means that they can display images as well as text. Most browsers exist in multiple versions, with the older versions having a lower version number (for example, Internet Explorer 4 is older than Internet Explorer 5).

Which browsers can I use with the Tennessee K12 website?

The Tennessee K12 website is compatible with the following browsers:

  •  Netscape 4.7 and above (including Netscape 6 and Netscape 7)
  • Internet Explorer 4 and above (including Internet Explorer versions 5 and 6)
  • Mozilla Firefox 1.0 and above

Certain administrative functions will require Netscape 6 or higher, or Internet Explorer 5 or higher.

Why did I get a message that something was not available with my browser version?

Some of the administrative functions within the website require advanced tools that are not compatible with some of the older browser versions. If you try to access these tools with an incompatible browser version, you will see a message to that effect. In order to use that tool, you will need to either update the browser on your machine, or run the tool from another machine with an updated browser.

How can I check my browser version?

From within your browser, choose the "Help" option, and then select the "About ..." menu option. The window should display the information about the browser you are currently using, including the version number.
